It specifies revenue management and audience engagement, handling advertising revenue of $5 billion every year.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>In Conversation with BlackMatter Ransomware<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marketron customers learned of the incident in an email on previous days from the organization\u2019s CEO, Jim Howard, who said that \u201cthe Russian criminal organization BlackMatter\u201d was answerable for the attack.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This would be another ransomware attack over the past weekend assert by the BlackMatter, as the group also hijacked the NEW Cooperative U.S. farmers organization, and asked for a $5.9 million ransom.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Howard is conciliatory in his email to customers, saying that they do not know how the hackers breached the network since the company made significant investments recently in cybersecurity implementations designed to protect from intruders.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThis issue comes despite significant recent investments in separating backup and disaster recovery in different physical and network environments, instituting \u2018zero trust\u2019 access management policies, and new security detection and recovery tools\u201d &#8211; Jim Howard, Marketron CEO<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Howard also says that the company was communicating with the hackers as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and that all efforts are towards restoring the systems as quickly as possible.&nbsp; &nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"508\" src=\"https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1-1024x508.jpg\" alt=\"Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1\" class=\"wp-image-3233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1-1024x508.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1-300x149.jpg 300w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1-768x381.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1-1536x762.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Blackmatter-Ransomware-hit-Marketron-Marketing-Services-image1.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Services are also not working<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Marketron announced the incident saying that it was dealing with a \u201ccyber event\u201d that disrupted some of its business operations and impacted all its customers in recent days. \u201cCurrently, all Marketron services are offline,\u201d the organization declared, computing that the attack affected the Marketron Traffic, Visual Traffic Cloud, Exchange, and Advertiser Portal services.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">RadioTraffic and RepPak services were still standing but the company took them offline as a precaution. The only platforms that remained online were Pitch, Email Marketing, and Mobile Messaging.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Bo Bandy, Marketron\u2019s VP of Marketing, disclosed the issues publicly on Monday saying that third-party forensic investigators were working \u201cto understand the full nature and scope of the event, determine root cause, and to ensure the integrity, safety, and security of our systems and data.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cWe are inadequate to establish the root cause of the event at this moment and this research is very much on-going\u201d &#8211; Bo Bandy, Marketron VP of Marketing. Bandy told our security experts that the company discovered the attack and acted \u201cto notify law enforcement, secure our systems and data, and contain the event.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The BlackMatter ransomware is believed to be a rebrand of the DarkSide ransomware operation, which shut down after attacking Colonial Pipeline in May. The group has been extremely active, running more than a dozen organizations this month alone.
