During the search at the different call centers, the SSU law enforcement officers seized electronics and documents that linked the attackers to illegal activity:<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>More than 100 items of computer equipment with headset;<\/li><li>Mobile devices and routers;<\/li><li>Forged accounting records with victims&#8217; bank details and other documents<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the Outcome of the Research?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAs per the research, some of the locals equipped six illegal call centers in leased offices and apartments. The operators offered foreigners to invest money in stocks and cryptocurrency,\u201d the SSU said. The victims shared money to offenders\u2019 bank cards and crypto wallets with further conversion into a non-observed section of the economy.\u201d<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"Ukraine-takes-down-call-centers-behind-cryptocurrency-investor-scams-image1\" class=\"wp-image-3275\" width=\"473\" height=\"315\" srcset=\"https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1-1024x682.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1-1536x1023.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/xiarch.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/09\/Ukraine-Takes-Down-Call-Centers-behind-Cryptocurrency-Investor-Scams-image1.jpg 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 473px) 100vw, 473px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In related news, the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said in May that more than $80 million were lost to cryptocurrency investment scams, based on stats stemming from roughly 7,000 reports received since October 2020.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This equates to a ten-fold increase, with reports showing that the median amount lost to cryptocurrency scammers was $1,900.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;The numbers are especially striking for people in their 20s and 30s: this group reported losing far more money on investment scams than on any other type of fraud, and more than half of their reported investment scam losses were in cryptocurrency,&#8221; the FTC said.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is the FBI doing?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Two months ago, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) warned cryptocurrency owners of fraudsters actively targeting virtual assets by impersonating cryptocurrency exchange or payment platforms support staff in phone calls initiated by victims of online tech support scams.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Cryptocurrency owners are advised to enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) on all their cryptocurrency accounts, deny requests to download and use remote access apps, and always reach out to exchanges and payment companies using official email addresses and phone numbers.<\/p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The FBI Criminal Investigative Division and Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) also warned stock market investors in July of fraudsters impersonating registered investment professionals such as registered brokers and investment advisers.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has taken down a network of six call centers in Lviv, utilized by a ring of scammers to defraud cryptocurrency investors worldwide.
