Microsoft Resolved Windows 10 Drive Corruption Bug – Read this to know!

Microsoft fixed the Windows 10 bug that corrupts the hard drive by using the path and view a specifically crafted file.

Experts reported this new Windows bug that authorizes the attackers to get the privileges and makes the NTFS volume corrupted. While triggering the bug, Windows users had to get the special path shown below.

As Windows executed the path, the file directory is corrupted and becomes unreadable. Once the bug is completely executed it will display a message that is “driver is corrupted and need to repair”.

The user quickly reboots the system and runs the chkdsk command to fix the corruption. However, Microsoft said that the driver is not corrupted and chkdsk will fix this issue. But according to the investigation, the chkdsk was unable to resolve the issue and Windows revokes for the reboot.

How Microsoft Fixed this Bug?

This bug was reported and would be fixed in the security patch that was delivered by Microsoft in February. In case the update is not able to resolve the issue, the OSR also released an unofficial patch that will block the path in Windows, and Firefox 85.0.1 also added a check to revoke the path from execution.

Summering Up

In this update, Microsoft release the Windows 10 Insider build 21322 and also includes an undocumented that fix the problem and remove the path from the execution/

Once the update is installed, you may see that the path c:\:$i30:$bitmap has become invalid and none of the NTFS drivers is corrupted in the future.

Whereas this entire update was only for Windows 10 Insider “Dev” channel and it does not resolve the user’s problem who are using Windows 10 21H1 “Beta” preview. Microsoft is working on another update while resolving this issue for all the Windows versions.
