United States Issued Executive Order to Increase the Cybersecurity Defense!

President of the United States had issued an order on Wednesday to update the country’s security and defense against the cyberattack and give time to them while taking all the steps needed to secure the defense mechanism in the investigation.

The executive order takes care of all the recent attacks that target the United States this year which holds the big-name SolarWinds supply chain attack executed in December and after that government also takes action against the worst side of Ransomware attacks that executed against the largest US fuel pipeline and on Colonial Pipeline.

This executive order holds a detailed report of 34 pages and it is designed while modernizing the cybersecurity defense techniques from the federal government’s infrastructure created as a standardized incident that is responsible for playbook and will increase the communication between the service providers and other law enforcement agencies.

The executive order will direct the government and perform the following actions;

  • All the required Information Technology and Operation Technology service providers and the cloud hosting providers that used to share the information about the cybersecurity flaws and the data breaches that are now known and defend or delete the contractual issues that prevent the information sharing.
  • Update Supply chain security by developing the guidelines, best practices, and update tools while doing the auditing and ensuring that nothing is tampered with by the attackers in any type of supply chain attack. Hence taking this initiative the government will create a new “energy star” program that is capable to develop the software more securely.
  • Modify the detection and remediation methods used in cybersecurity vulnerabilities and data breaches that are executed on the government networks by developing the centralized Endpoint Detection and Response EDR solution for intra-governmental information gathering.
  • Fixed the federal government IT services, which includes moving the Zero Trust Architecture, which needs multi-factor authentication and encryption of data while transmitting and developing the strict security guidelines on the cloud services.
  • Create a Cyber Safety Review Board which handles the Federal and private sector members who are enhancing and convene the significant cyber incident that addressed the attacks which provides the recommendations and transfer other relevant information using the law enforcement.
  • Establish a unique and standardized playbook that works access the government agencies while responding the incidents that was happened suddenly.

Whereas, the president also ordered to apply these initiatives in between 30 days to 360 days accordingly. According to the experts, this is one of the most detailed deadline-given to the administration of the organizations. These cyberattacks are rapidly increasing day by day and some seismic attacks like SolarWinds, are created very tough situations for the government as well.

Although, the White House also issued a summarized version of the executive order that provides good information about the upcoming changes required to mitigate the upcoming cybersecurity risks.
